It is one of the most chemically inert gases known, remaining stable at temperatures up to approximately 400°F (204°C) in the presence of most materials. As a typically non-polar gas, it is slightly soluble in water and oil but highly soluble in non-polar organic solvents.

- Silane (SiH4) Silane is a compound of silicon and hydrogen, typically a colorless gas with a garlic-like odor. It is soluble in water but almost insoluble in ethyl alcohol, ethyl ether, benzene, trichloromethane, trichlorosilane, and tetrachlorosilane. Silane is much more chemically reactive than alkanes and easily oxidizes, often spontaneously igniting upon contact with air.
